ARAF is encouraged by the decision of the NPA to prosecute apartheid policemen for the kidnapping, torture and murder of political activist Nokuthula Simelane in 1983. These police men like their principals FW De Klerk and Adriaan Vlok didn’t apply for amnesty at the TRC.
ARAF notes that whilst prosecutions of foot soldiers is a step in the right direction it’s nontheless woefully inadequate and if the leaders who gave political command and authority are not themselves persecuted then prosecution of low ranking apartheid police becomes a tactic to shield the likes of de Klerk and Vlok.
ARAF calls on the NPA to speed up the process to prosecute both main apartheid leaders FW De Klerk and Adriaan Vlok.
